  1. The Live Mix part 2 is a great introduction to the Breakestra and their distillation of classic funk essence. While they aren't treading new ground, they are clear devotees of prime funk .

In this notable double-album, Jimmy Heath contributed many of the themes, displaying a lively gift for melody: his simple bar construction The Quota and his moodily expressive Lowland Lullaby with its slightly funky feel gave lots of lift-off for soloing. And every member of this band was at the top of his game in these studio gigs.

  5. It certainly appears that another live "There Was A Time"-related number was fairly fresh in the vaults [in '98 it was released in "Say It Loud And Live [Live In Dallas] ])". That would have worked, but even better, using the full-blown "Funky Drummer", which contains the album title/5(5).

Recording and composition "Funky Drummer" was recorded on November 20, in Cincinnati, tracorcalquosubmaedusicarcurora.co piece takes the form of an extended vamp, with individual instruments (mostly the guitar, tenor saxophones and organ) improvising brief licks on top. Brown's ad-libbed vocals on "Funky Drummer" are sporadic and declamatory, and are mostly concerned with encouraging the other band members.
