The diversity, ambition and polish of Starting Over indicated that much like Side 3, this album was an effort to set aside the "bubblegum popmeisters" tag that had been unfairly hung on the Raspberries after their debut LP, though rather than showing how hard they could rock, this disc was supposed to demonstrate how clever and creative they were.

Swathed as it is in 70s cock-rock cliches, plodding guitar riffs, "professional" but unspectacular musicianship, and lyrics about crying and the joys of groupie-abuse, you'd expect Starting Over to be the stuff of discount bins and "Where Are They Now" TV specials.4/5(7).

I would rate their 2nd album "Fresh" as their best with their 4th "Starting Over" a very close 2nd best. they blended the feel good harmonies of the Beach Boys, writing skills of the Beatles, & the power of the /5(20).
